Not Every Pause Means the Same Thing

Monday Morning Devotional
5/18/26

As we enter into this week, I want to encourage those who may find themselves in a season of slowing down, waiting, rebuilding, or even reevaluating where they are in life.
One thing I am learning is this:
Not every pause means the same thing.
Sometimes God pauses us for restoration.
Sometimes for preparation.
And sometimes a pause becomes a warning when we continue resisting His instruction.
In Scripture, we see several examples of this.
Elijah was a powerful prophet, yet after spiritual warfare and exhaustion, he found himself weary, discouraged, and wanting to give up. But God did not cast him aside. God allowed him to rest, fed him, strengthened him, and spoke to him gently before sending him forward again.
Moses spent years on the backside of the desert before stepping fully into his assignment. What looked like delay was actually preparation. God was developing the leader before revealing the assignment.
Then there was Saul.
Saul was chosen as king, anointed, and given instruction by God, yet he continually struggled with obedience. Instead of fully obeying God, Saul justified partial obedience and leaned into his own reasoning. The result was devastating. What God intended for Saul’s future was affected by repeated disobedience.
Scripture reminds us:
1Samuel 15:22 -To obey is better than sacrifice.
That verse is still speaking to us today.
We live in a time where many people want the promises of God without the process, the platform without the preparation, and the blessings without obedience.
But God is still calling His people to trust Him completely.
Some of us are in a season where God is restoring us like Elijah.
Some are being prepared quietly like Moses.
And others may need to examine whether God has been trying to get our attention through correction.
Whatever season you are in, do not waste it.
There is purpose in every season when we remain surrendered to God.
As you enter this week, ask yourself:
Is God restoring me?
Is He preparing me?
Or is He calling me to obey in an area I have resisted?
The answer to that question could change the direction of your life.
Scriptures:
1 Kings 19:1–18
Exodus 3:1–10
1 Samuel 15:22–23
