Another Year, His Power at Work in Me

Monday Morning Devotional | The Power of God

Ephesians 3:20 (KJV)“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.”

Yesterday, I shared a message about The Power of God in the Believer’s Life. Today, as I celebrate another birthday, I’m reflecting on His power at work in my own life.

I am grateful for another year, but I have to be honest: the journey from my last birthday to this one has been very challenging.

I have had what I call “Lazarus experiences”—seasons when something in my life seemed beyond hope, yet I witnessed God’s hand in bringing me through. Those were also experiences so painful that I prayed, “Lord, please don’t allow me to return to that place again.”

Even though I saw His hand, I didn’t want to experience that hurt or uncertainty again. I could thank Him for bringing me through and still acknowledge how difficult the journey had been.

And there were moments this past year when I asked God, “Why am I back here? We’ve come so far.”

Maybe you have asked that same question. You thought a particular season was behind you, but you found yourself facing a familiar struggle. You remembered the progress you had made and wondered why you were standing in that place again.

But even in my questioning, I’m reminded that His grace is truly sufficient. The Lord told Paul, “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9).

I don’t have every answer, and I won’t pretend the journey has been easy. Yet His grace has sustained me through the very places I didn’t want to walk through again.

When Jesus called Lazarus from the tomb, He cried, “Lazarus, come forth” (John 11:43). That account reminds me that what looks beyond hope to us is still within God’s reach.

And Ephesians 3:20 reminds us that His power is at work within us. Even while we are praying for our circumstances to change, God can strengthen our hearts, deepen our faith, and give us courage for the next step.

Returning to a familiar struggle does not erase the growth that has taken place in you.

You can bring your questions to God. You can acknowledge that you’re tired. You can ask Him for help and receive the support you need. Depending on His power begins with recognizing that your strength alone is not enough.

You may not be celebrating a birthday today, but take a moment to recognize the grace that has carried you to this day. Consider what you have walked through, what you have learned, and the ways God has helped you continue.

Today, I celebrate the gift of life with a deeper appreciation for His sustaining grace. As I enter another year, my prayer is for peace, restoration, and renewed joy. I’m trusting God to continue shaping me and using my life to encourage others and bring Him glory.

Another year, His power is still at work in me.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for another day and another year of life. You know the places we have walked through and the questions we still carry. Thank You that we can come to You honestly. When our strength runs low, remind us that Your grace is sufficient. Restore our joy, strengthen our faith, and guide our next steps. Let Your power work in and through us for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Renewed. Refreshed. Restored.
