Go Forward Anyway: When Standing Still Is No Longer an Option

Monday Morning Devotional

Scripture:

“Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward.’” — Exodus 14:15 NKJV

There are seasons when we find ourselves standing between what is behind us and what is in front of us. Behind us may be an old job, a familiar place, an unhealthy mindset, disappointment, or a season we thought would last longer than it did. In front of us may be uncertainty, responsibility, change, and questions we do not yet have answers for.

This is where the children of Israel found themselves in Exodus 14. They had left Egypt, but Pharaoh and his army were pursuing them. The Red Sea was before them, and their past was closing in behind them. Fear caused them to look back and question the journey. They could see the danger, but they could not yet see the way God was about to make.

Sometimes we do the same thing. When pressure rises, it is easy to focus on what did not work, who did not help, what we lost, or how impossible the future appears. We may even become tempted to return to what God delivered us from simply because it was familiar. But familiar does not always mean fruitful, and comfortable does not always mean God’s will.

God’s instruction to Moses was not to remain frozen by fear. He said, “Go forward.”

What is powerful about that command is that the Red Sea had not parted yet. God told them to move before they could see the full pathway. Their obedience had to come before the evidence. They had to trust that the same God who brought them out of Egypt would also bring them through what stood before them.

Maybe God is not asking you to figure out the entire journey today. Maybe He is simply asking you to take the next faithful step: make the call, finish the application, write the vision, start the project, release what has ended, forgive, pray again, or move beyond the place where fear has held you still.

You do not have to know every detail to obey God. You do not have to wait until every resource is in place or every person agrees with you. When God says move, He has already made provision for the path—even if you cannot yet see it.

The Red Sea was not the end of Israel’s story. It became the place where God revealed His power, protected His people, and made a way where there appeared to be no way. The obstacle before you may become the very place where God shows you that He is still able.

Do not let uncertainty convince you to sit down in a place God is calling you to move beyond. Take the next step in faith.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for being with me in every uncertain place. Help me not to be ruled by fear, disappointment, or what I cannot yet see. Give me the courage to obey Your instruction and move forward in faith. Make a way where there seems to be no way, and let my obedience reveal Your power in my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Reflection Question:

What is one area of your life where God may be telling you to stop standing still and take the next step?

Closing line: When God says go forward, do not let fear keep you seated in a place you have already outgrown.
