Choosing Love Over Offense

Scripture:

ree
“It is impossible that no offenses should come, but woe to him through whom they do come.” — Luke 17:1 (NKJV)

Devotional Thought

We live in a world that thrives on reaction. One post, one comment, one misunderstood text—and suddenly hearts are divided. Offense has become one of the enemy’s most subtle yet powerful tools. It isolates us, hardens our hearts, and blocks the flow of love.

Jesus didn’t say if offenses come—He said they will. The question isn’t whether we’ll be offended, but how we’ll respond when it happens.

As believers, we’re called to a higher response. Love isn’t just an emotion—it’s a decision that often costs us our pride. Forgiveness doesn’t always erase the pain instantly, but it does free the soul from being chained to bitterness. Every time we forgive, we mirror the heart of Christ—the One who loved even from the cross.

In this season of my life, I refuse to let offense rob me of peace, joy, and fellowship. I choose to guard my heart by walking in love. I choose forgiveness—not because others always deserve it, but because I need the freedom that comes with it.

Reflection Questions

  • Is there someone you need to release from offense today?

  • Have you allowed unspoken hurt to distance you from someone or from God?

  • What does choosing love look like for you in this moment?

Prayer

Lord, help me not to be easily offended. Teach me to walk in love and to choose forgiveness even when it feels impossible. Heal the wounds that offense has left behind, and fill every empty space in my heart with Your peace. Remind me that freedom is found in letting go.Amen.
